This course is aimed to help students to have a basic knowledge and understanding about translation of Japanese in terms of Japanese linguistics and history of Japanese.
This course has 3 parts.
Part 1: Translation between Japanese and English
Part 2: Translation between past Japanese and present Japanese
Part 3 : History of translation in Japan

Course Goals
The goals of this course are to have a basic knowledge and understanding of:
(1) what linguistic aspects affect translation between Japanese and other languages (especially English).
(2) what linguistic aspects affect translation between past and present Japaneses.
(3) history of translation in Japan.

Evaluation is based on report for Part 1: 25%, report for Part 2: 35%, and report for Part 3: 40%.
