This course is aimed to develop your skills to read academic articles written in Japanese, including classical Japanese.

Each participant chooses a paper as they like, and tries to “read” it (including how to pronounce each kanji).
Participants are supposed to help each other to understand texts.

CATS Requirements: Non-native speakers of Japanese with a comprehension level of JLPT2 or higher.

Course Goals

The goals of this course are to:
(1) be get a skill to collect information to read academic Japanese.
(2) with THAT skill be able to read Japanese academic papers.

Evaluation is based on usual performance score (e.g. preparation for classes, discussion during classes): 70%, and exams: 30%

[JDTS/MATS students] This course can be taken as reduced seminar (4 ECTS) only.
