This course explores various aspects of contemporary Japanese philosophy (Post-World War II Japanese philosophy) by reading primary sources in English translation and discussing them in English.
Participants will read and discuss the following papers:
- OMORI Shozo (大森荘蔵) “An Essay on Kotodama (ことだま論)”
- KIMURA Bin (木村敏) “Time as the Between (あいだとしての時間)”
- SAKABE Megumi (坂部恵) “Appearance and Copula (あらわれとCopula)”
- HIROMATSU Wataru (廣松渉) “Articulation Forms of the World of Things (事物的世界の分節相)”
Participants will initially receive a lecture on the background knowledge necessary to understand the texts.
They will then read and discuss the papers, deepening their understanding of the philosophical ideas presented by these authors.
